Instructions:

  1. Combine scalded buttermilk, shortening, sugar, salt, and soda; let cool to lukewarm.
  2. Soften yeast in lukewarm water and add to the buttermilk mixture.
  3. Gradually add flour to form a soft dough.
  4. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for 10 minutes or until smooth.
  5. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
  6. Shape dough into rolls and place on a greased baking sheet.
  7. Brush tops with melted shortening.
  8. Bake in a preheated 425°F oven for 20 minutes.
