MERINGUES A LA BELLE

  1. Beat egg whites until frothy. Gradually add sugar, beating until meringue forms soft peaks.
  2. Blend in baking powder and vanilla.
  3. Fold in crackers and nuts.
  4. Drop mixture by rounded teaspoons onto greased baking sheets, 1 inch apart.
  5. Bake in a 300°F oven for about 20 minutes.
  6. Remove from baking sheets immediately and cool on racks.
