  1. Preheat oven to 325°F. Scald milk and add bread cubes, butter, spices, sugar, and salt. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  2. Slowly stir the mixture into beaten eggs, then add vanilla.
  3. Pour into a buttered casserole dish. Place the dish in a pan of hot water and bake for 1 hour or until set.
