BROWN BREAD

Instructions:

  1. Cream together shortening and sugar until very well combined.
  2. Heat water to boiling, add raisins and baking soda. Stir well and let cool.
  3. Alternate adding flour and the raisin mixture to the creamed mixture, beating well after each addition.
  4. Grease and flour 4 1/2 cans.
  5. Even up the dough in the cans. Bake on the lower rack at 325°F for 1 1/4 hours.
