  1. Mix and sift together flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  2. Cut in butter until it resembles cornmeal.
  3. Stir in raisins.
  4. Combine buttermilk, egg, and baking soda.
  5. Stir the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture.
  6. Bake in a greased 1 or 1 1/2 quart pudding pan or casserole at 375°F for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.
