  1. Make, bake, and cool the gingerbread as directed on the package, using an 8-inch square pan.
  2. Beat cream cheese with sherry until smooth and creamy.
  3. Gradually beat in sugar, spices, and salt, adding more sherry if needed.
  4. Cut the cooled cake into two even layers. Fill with cheese frosting and frost the top only.
  5. Garnish with walnut halves. Makes 9 servings.
