GUMDROP CAKE

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cream together shortening, white sugar, and brown sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating well.
  3. Combine baking soda with applesauce.
  4. Sift together flour, baking powder, and spices. Coat nuts and gumdrops with a little flour.
  5. Alternate adding flour and applesauce to the creamed mixture.
  6. Fold in nuts and gumdrops.
  7. Pour into a greased and floured deep tube pan.
  8. Bake for about 90 minutes.
