  1. Blend butter and sugar together. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  2. Sift together flour, soda, cocoa, salt, and baking powder.
  3. Add dry mixture alternately with water. Stir in sauerkraut.
  4. Pour into two 8-inch pans.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes or until the center springs back when lightly pressed.
