Instructions:

  1. Combine shortening, salt, and spices; add brown sugar gradually and cream thoroughly.
  2. Add beaten eggs and mix well.
  3. Add rolled oats, nuts, and raisins, mixing thoroughly.
  4. Sift flour and baking soda together; add half to the creamed mixture, then the milk, then the remaining flour, mixing well.
  5. Drop by teaspoon onto greased baking sheets.
  6. Flatten cookies with a glass covered with a damp cloth.
  7. Bake at 375 degrees for 10–15 minutes.
