  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Place dates in a bowl and pour boiling water over them. Let stand.
  3. Beat egg until light and add sugar.
  4. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Stir egg mixture and nuts into the flour mixture.
  6. Add dates and stir until combined.
  7. Grease a 10x5x3 inch loaf pan and pour the batter in.
  8. Bake for 1 ½ hours or until done. Let cool.
