OLD FASHIONED GINGER BREAD

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9x9x1 3/8 inch pan.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices, and salt together.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs, beat until very light.
  5. Mix molasses with hot water. Gradually add the molasses mixture to the egg mixture.
  6. Slowly mix in the flour mixture until smooth. Do not overbeat.
  7. Pour batter into the greased pan and bake for 40 to 45 minutes.
  8. Cool in pan for 5 minutes, then gently turn out to cool completely.
