  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line muffin pans with paper cups.
  2. In a bowl, cream together sugar, shortening, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg yolks and beat well.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition.
  6. Fill muffin cups halfway with batter.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes. Makes 18 cupcakes.
