  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease two 8 or 9-inch pans.
  2. Cream together shortening and sugar, then beat in eggs and vanilla.
  3. Add cocoa, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt alternately with water. Mix well.
  4. Stir in the sauerkraut.
  5. Pour into greased pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
