BIRD NEST

Ingredients:

• Tart apples (sliced), enough to fill half the dish
• Brown Sugar
• Nutmeg or Cinnamon (as desired)
• Butter (for dotting)

Topping:

• ½ cup Shortening
• 1½ cups Flour
• ½ cup Sugar
• 1 Egg (beaten)
• ¾ cup Milk
• 2 tsp Baking Powder
• ½ tsp Salt

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Fill half of a deep casserole dish with sliced apples. Sprinkle with brown sugar, nutmeg, or cinnamon, and dot with butter.
3. Cream shortening and sugar, add beaten egg and milk. Mix well.
4. Sift flour, salt, and baking powder together, then add to the wet mixture.
5. Pour the topping over the apples and bake for about 30 minutes or until apples are tender.
6. Serve with milk or whipped cream.
