Instructions:

  1. Boil water and set aside to cool.
  2. Add egg, soda, cream of tartar, butter, sugar, salt, and flour.
  3. Mix well and add walnuts and dates.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (177°C) for about 1 1/4 hours.
