  1. Sift flour and 3/4 cup sugar together four times.
  2. Beat egg whites with salt and cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
  3. Gradually add remaining sugar, beating after each addition.
  4. Fold in flavorings and flour mixture.
  5. Bake in an ungreased pan at 325°F for 1 hour, then invert to cool.
