  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream the shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and continue to beat.
  4. Combine the sour milk and baking soda, then mix into the creamed ingredients.
  5. Stir in the raisins, nuts, citron, lemon zest, and lemon juice.
  6. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the mixture.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  8. Bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
