GUM DROP FRUIT CAKE

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Grease two loaf pans.
  2. Cream butter and brown sugar. Add eggs and mix well.
  3. Dissolve baking soda in sour milk.
  4. Sift flour with cloves and cinnamon.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with the sour milk.
  6. Fold in dates, citron, nuts, gumdrops, and cherries last.
  7. Pour into prepared pans and bake in a slow oven for about 1 hour, or until done.
