  1. Dissolve chocolate in boiling water and cook until creamy, stirring constantly to prevent scorching. Set aside to cool.
  2. Cream butter and gradually add sugar.
  3. Add chocolate mixture to the creamed butter.
  4. Beat eggs and add to the mixture.
  5. Dissolve soda in a little sour milk and add to the batter.
  6. Sift together flour and baking powder. Add to the batter along with vanilla.
  7. Pour into a greased large loaf tin or three layer cake pans.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until set and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
