CARAMEL DEVIL FOOD CAKE

  1. Sift flour once, measure, add soda, and sift together three times.
  2. Cream butter thoroughly and gradually add sugar, creaming until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Mix in melted chocolate.
  5. Alternately add flour mixture and milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with flour.
  6. Stir in vanilla.
  7. Pour into two greased 9-inch layer pans.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes or until set.
  9. For frosting, cook brown sugar, cream, and butter for 3 minutes, then beat until creamy. Spread over cooled cake.
