SPECIAL FUDGE CAKE

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch or 9-inch layer pans.
  2. Cream the shortening and gradually add the sugar, beating until light and fluffy.
  3. Blend in the well-beaten eggs.
  4. Sift the flour, baking soda, and salt together.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with the sour milk and water.
  6. Stir in the melted chocolate and vanilla.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pans.
  8. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool the cakes.
