CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Grease a cookie sheet.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together shortening, brown sugar, and granulated sugar.
  3. Add beaten eggs, hot water, and vanilla; beat well.
  4. Combine flour, salt, and baking soda; gradually add to the creamed mixture.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips, nuts (if using), and corn flakes or wheaties.
  6. Drop by spoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned. Let cool on a wire rack.
