SWEETHEART COOKIES

Ingredients:

• 1 cup shortening
• 2 cups brown sugar
• 4 3/4 cups flour
• 1/2 teaspoon soda
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• 3 eggs, well beaten

Filling:

• 1/2 lb dates
• 1 cup nuts
• 1/2 cup sugar

Instructions:

1. Roll dough as for a jelly roll.
2. Cook filling and spread on dough, roll, and let stand overnight.
3. Slice and bake.
