OLD FASHION GERMAN COOKIES

Ingredients:

• 2 cups water
• 1 cup dark molasses
• ¼ lb butter or shortening
• 1 teaspoon each of salt, pepper, and cloves
• Harts horn salt for hardness
• Flour as needed

Instructions:

1. Combine all ingredients except flour and let stand overnight in a warm place.
2. Gradually add enough flour to make a dough easy to roll out.
3. Roll into narrow strips, slice into small pieces, and bake on greased tins until done.
