CHOCOLATE CHIFFON PIE

  1. Soak gelatin in cold water for about 5 minutes.
  2. Mix cocoa or chocolate with boiling water until smooth.
  3. Add softened gelatin, dissolving thoroughly.
  4. Stir in the egg yolks slightly beaten, ½ cup sugar, salt, and vanilla. Cool slightly.
  5. When the mixture begins to thicken, fold in beaten egg whites and remaining ½ cup sugar.
  6. Fill baked shell and chill.
  7. Just before serving, spread a layer of whipped cream over the pie and sprinkle with crushed nut meats.
